Sherman Hu: Hey folks! Sherman Hu, from ShermanLive.com, with another tip for you today!

If you are asking the question, "How can I create my own topical social network?" We’re not talking about creating or jumping into another network right now, like Facebook or MySpace, for example. But, how do you create your own white label topical social network?

Then what I’d like to share with you, is to go visit Gina’s Social Network app at Ning.com. Ning.com is the social network application I’ve referred to, and if you are kind of planning a non-profit organization — sorry, a not-for-profit social network — whether it’s charitable or religious, or you’re thinking a for-profit social network in business, marketing, if you have a product or service, then Ning will help you get up to speed today. And depending on features you want, whether it’s domain mapping or ads or whatever the case may be, then maybe a small charge is there.

But today, you can go create an account and set up your own social network in a hurry and be able to offer other folks, who are enthusiasts or evangelists in that topic, to join as members, have their own space to blog, to build a following, to add photos, add video. That right there allows you to get up to speed, time to market, in a hurry with very, very low cost of entry and a powerful way to put your foot forward in a social network space.

Hope you enjoy this tip!

Hi Jackson, thanks for your question.

It all depends on your requirements and end-goals for both these sites. I would recommend writing a list of your top 10 most important factors in a platform, and measuring this list against any platform you're going to select.

I'm biased towards using a blogging platform, especially Wordpress. You can visit Wordpress Tutorials and read the reasons why choosing Wordpress as a publishing platform makes sense.

For your church, I would go through the same exercise. Do consider Ning.com (free - very low cost) and Wordpress (free).

I just came across another publishing platform at Interspire.com called ArticleLive NX, which is an article management software, but looks very promising as a publishing platform for ease-of-use and being feature-rich.

Jackson, these platforms are just tools. What's more important is your 'needs', and I'm confident one of the above 'solutions' will fill your needs.

Cheers!

Hello Sherman Hu

I would like to create a website for my own and my church. Could you please give me a few tips how do I do that?
Your assistance would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Jackson
